THE CHERRY TOMATO
This kind of tomato develops its fruits in grapes and each grape can have until twenty-five little tomatoes.
This vegetable’s fruits are round, of a bright red colouring, of a sugary taste and they’re used in the kitchen for salads but also to be only consumed like that.
RECIPES AND USES
The cherry tomato is used in the kitchen for salads, to prepare the caprese salad or other tasty dishes. It’s also a good ally for those who have to follow a diet, in fact this tomato, like the other ones, is low-calorie, purifies, refreshes and can be useful to support diuresis.
Contrarily to how much it may think of the so called “Tomato of Pachino”, the varieties known as the “cherry tomato” and the “vine ripened tomato”, it wasn’t born in the Pachino area: here the cultivations of tomatoes go back to 1925, but they were about normal tomatoes for salads of normal and different dimensions.
It was only in 1989 that an Israeli company producer of seeds, the Hazera Genetics, produced in Sicily, by means of a controlled society, two varieties called Noemi and Rita, the last one belongs to the vine ripened category.
